Ruddington bus passengers catching Nottingham City Transport (NCT) Navy 3 and Green 10 services to and from the City Centre will find a permanent change to both their routes and bus stops from this week.
The redevelopment of the Broadmarsh area in Nottingham has reached the next stage – which on August 9th sees the permanent closure of Collin Street to all vehicles. The new traffic scheme is still going ahead despite retail company Intu going into administration recently, leaving the half-demolished Broadmarsh Shopping Centre in ‘limbo’ at the heart of a planned £2 billion regeneration area in the south of the city. This includes a new car park, bus station and library building – which is already at a fairly advanced stage of construction, as can be seen below.
Last week government funding of £7.99 million was pledged to help Nottingham City Council knock down the rest of the derelict former mall – although what to do with this site next is still very much up in the air. What is confirmed is that Collin Street will still be pedestrianised, whilst Canal Street, between Middle Hill and Greyfriar Gate, becomes a two-way restricted area for buses and wheelchair accessible taxis only. NCT is welcoming the changes, saying: “They will drastically improve the City Centre once completed and improve service reliability as some roads are prioritised for buses.”
Here’s how these changes will affect Ruddington’s NCT Buses from Sunday August 9th 2020:
Navy 3
Buses to the City Centre will follow their existing route along Carrington Street, stopping for the Railway Station.
At the end of Carrington Street, buses will turn left on to Canal Street, where a new bus stop will be located near Castle Wharf.
Buses will then use a new slip-road to reach Maid Marian Way, with a bus stop outside Nottingham College. This stop will replace the stop currently used under the car park bridge at the bottom of Maid Marian Way. Buses will continue to Beastmarket Hill as before.
Buses to Ruddington will follow their existing route to the bottom of Maid Marian Way (under the car park bridge) and then turn right on to Greyfriar Gate and left on to Canal Street.
The Navy 3 will stop on Canal Street, near Albion Street. This will replace the stop currently on Collin Street.
Buses will then turn right on to Carrington Street to serve the existing stops for the Railway Station and then continue to Ruddington via Wilford Lane.
Green 10
Buses to the City Centre will follow their existing route along Carrington Street, stopping for the Railway Station.
At the end of Carrington Street, buses will turn right on to Canal Street and then left on to Middle Hill, resuming their normal route from Fletcher Gate to Victoria Centre.
Buses from the City Centre will follow their existing route to the bottom of Maid Marian Way (under the car park bridge). The Green 10 will then turn right on to Greyfriar Gate and left on to Canal Street.
It will then stop in the lay-by underneath the car park bridge, which replaces its current stop on Collin Street.
Buses will then turn right on to Carrington Street to serve the existing stops for the Railway Station and then continue towards Trent Bridge and Ruddington via Loughborough Road and the Wolds Estate.
